‘Tourists’ Paradise’, ‘Rome of the East’, and so on are the epithet given to the state of Goa. The architectural splendors of the temples and churches and the sumptuous scenic beauties of the state arrest the attention of the tourists from across the world. Every year millions of tourists throng the city to relax and veg out at their best. All these have made Goa a much-favored destination for visitors and travelers.
Goa is no more restricted to beaches and the mind-boggling landscapes; it has much more in terms of food, hotels, motels, etc. The city has a long history enamored with rich culture and society. Goa became a Union Territory after getting liberated by the Indian army from Portuguese colonization in the year 1961. Goa, as a melting pot of religions, races and cultures of East and West over the centuries with a different and multi-hued lifestyle is much different from the rest of India. Hindu and Catholic communities form the majority over there. A secular outlook prevails in Goa, which makes it a peace-loving state of India. The tolerant nature of the people and an environment of celebration of festivals and rites like Eid, Diwali, Christmas, etc. are something people in general seek for.
On the north Maharastra borders Goa while Kornataka borders it in south and north.
The magnificent coastline formed by the vast Arabian Sea on the west makes Goa a famous spot. Panaji, the capital city of Goa is well linked by national and international airlines.
The sea and rivers are replete with seafood like Prawns, mackerels, crabs and Lobsters. Kankani and Marathi are the state languages while English is widely spoken throughout Goa. Variety of food easily figures in Goan menus.
From late September through early March is the best time to travel Goa. During these times, weather remains pretty cool and dry. To sum-up the natural finesse, the wicked beaches and the eye-arresting landscapes command a visit to the city.
